Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Within just a few weeks this will be the joyous cry of the Church. We claim this Good News as the center of faith, it means new life and new beginnings are ours.

But what do we mean when we say new life. Do we mean new life in, “heaven,” after our life on this earth ends? Yes, this is the promise we embrace. But is that all we mean?

Through scripture we find words like this on Jesus lips:

Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgement, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

Eternal life begins now and comes to fullness in the life to come. So what does it mean that we are already living eternal life? I am not sure any of us has that answer in full. But a good place to start might be some words from Fredrick Buechner:

We think of eternal life, if we think of it at all, as what happens when life ends. We would do better to think of it as what happens when life begins…to live eternal life in the full and final sense is to be with God as Christ is with him, and with each other as Christ is with us.

May you find new life in this Easter season as Christ embraces you with love and as you more fully embrace one another with love each and every day.

With Anticipation of Easter Joy,
Pastors Cris and Dave
